Additional Sun (R) Certified System Administrator for Solaris (TM) 10 Study Guide (Exams 310-200 & 310-202) Information

Primarily Written for those who want to earn the Sun Certified System Administrator (SCSA) certification for Solaris 10, this guide presents full coverage of the official objectives for both the required exams: CX-310-200 and CX-310-202. In spite of the laser sharp focus on the exam objectives, this is not a cram style book. Written in a classroom-based teaching style, this book presents material in a sequential fashion: topics and chapters build upon the previously covered topics and chapters. There is no hopping from topic to topic. An introductory chapter for beginners and a cohesive, concise, yet comprehensive presentation of the material makes it a self contained book that requires no prior experience in Solaris or UNIX. Even after passing the exam, you will find yourself coming back to use this book as an on-the-job reference.

Full coverage of exam topics includes: Basic and advanced Solaris 10 installation Managing file systems and core dumps Performing user and security administration Managing network printers and system processes Performing system backups and restores and managing storage volumes Managing naming services Managing role based access control and system messaging Understanding fundamentals of TCP/IP networking and managing network services

The book features complete details on all exam objectives, 250+ practice questions, step-by-step exercises, on-the-job elements, a two-minute drill at the end of each chapter that reviews the key points in the chapter, and chapter self-tests. The CD contains MasterExam practice exam software with all new questions, a Searchable electronic book, and a second practice exam (with free online registration).

What Customers Say About Sun (R) Certified System Administrator for Solaris (TM) 10 Study Guide (Exams 310-200 & 310-202):

Use these as your reference material and write your notes in them. Consider purchasing "Solaris 10: The complete reference" but also download the PDF files on Solaris 10 Administration (free) from SUN. This was much more in-depth covering Zones, ZFS, Jumpstart, Name Services, RBAC and other topics each in their own chapter/module. These are complex topics that are very deep and broad.

Boot these virtual machines and run through each topic. I used this book to study for 310-200 exam 1 and ONLY JUST passed the exam (passed with 65% on 7/29/09). For each exam topic, make sure you've used the utility or service in the solaris 10 virtual machines. And I saw NO mention of WAN Booting at all. Exam 2 is much harder than exam 1 and covers much more information. At least buy a good Solaris 10 reference book to walk you through the topics and use this book to hit all the important key points for the exam.

These should EACH get a chapter to cover the material in sufficient depth to understand and make the necessary links. The only reason I passed is because I've been supporting Solaris 10 for 3 years. My suggestion - Download VMWARE Server (free) and install, Download Solaris 10 x86 (free) and install 3 instances of Solaris 10 in separate virtual machines. The exam will give you 9 commands and ask you to choose the three commands that will each solve the stated problem. Even memorizing this book will not give you the understanding of the topics to correctly answer questions. If you already have this book, don't rely soley on this book to pass the exam. Print the PDFs and have them bound (about $5 per binding at kinkos, staples, officemax). Lastly, purchase a used SUN SPARC machine ($150-$200) to run through OpenBoot config and advanced installation from OpenBoot.

The book does not provide the depth necessary to really learn those features you haven't used extensively. No mention of the ldap_client_file and ldap_client_cred files or what each contain. You'll want a dual or quad core machine with 4GB ram minimum. For the 310-202 exam 2, I purchased a web-based course from SUN with ePractice exams. If you haven't learned the Core and Crash Dump management topic, you won't understand how to temporarily disable core files from being created and redirect core files to all go to a specific directory. Because I used additional material for exam 2, I recently passed exam2 (12/29/09) with 82%. This book cannot cover those topics in sufficient depth by combining Zones, Jumpstart, Flash Archives into one chapter. This was on the exam.

Very good for beginners. However, administrators should also be able to perform necessary steps on configuring new devices, mapping and managing external storage.

Good explanation on installation of Solaris 10, configuring network and file systems. This book barely covers external storage mapping or hardware installation and configuration.

Nice book, enough to pass the test probably. For stuff like I think Sun books are the best.

Certainly one of the best books for the beginners. Very very basic topics on Solaris, how to install, navigate, manage devices, create directories, perform backups, etc.

Nothing specific on Solaris architecture x86 or SPARC boot process or PROM, or anything on hardware, which is ok because the book is designed for administrators.

The book has very little coverage of the Solaris Material, doesn't cover all the exam topics, the questions after the chapeters and the sample test has nothing to do with the actual Solaris 10 Test.

It is helpful but don't count on it ace the test. This book is a good read and has some great information but it will not help you pass the certification test. Knowing everything in the book and the quiz answers will get you to about 45% on the test and the rest is found either through experience or the Sun website.I did use this book for my studies as did a number of my co-workers.

Reply me to my email address. I have not received my books yet,It's over due, Will you check for my product.
